ok.
so today i was thinking about influential people. somebody in my oral communication class was talking about martin luther king and... well, here's my thoughts basically:
how can somebody be that influential? how does one person affect so many others? like, pretty much everyone in the united states knows who mlk is, and what he stood for, and most of those people have been inspired in some way by him... i was just thinking about the whole butterfly effect thing, and how my actions slightly vary the lives of those around me and etc., but what about somebody like mlk? how huge of a flap of a butterfly's wing is that? i just cannot imagine what it must be like to be known by just about everybody. i cannot picture what it would be like to be a household name like that.. it seems like it would be a huge surreal experience.. and not just for the subject of the 'fame', but the people that knew them before they were 'famous'.. what is it like to have somebody that you know closely become so widely known, on such an incredible, enormous level? i am not talking about hollywood famous or rockstar famous, i am talking about legendary. i am talking about the people like mlk, people like gandhi, and john lennon, and elvis, and barack obama and george bush, and people like that. household names known worldwide.. it's interesting and just an unimaginable feeling to me.. to have touched so many lives, in one way or another.. i guess the main question is when does that line between regular person and famous person (and then the line between famous person and legend) get crossed? how does somebody go from being a normal person to being a huge influential force in the world? wow.
